"Inspired by the grandeur of its setting, New College School puts on Shakespeare plays in the glorious venue of the Antechapel of New College, Oxford as well as play-reading in the college garden. Years 5 and 6 perform a play entirely in French each Easter and Years 3 and 4 perform a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta each year." - Country Life
A drama specialist prepares pupils for LAMDA awards as part of the after school activities programme. There are productions of plays or musicals for every year group, including a Pre-Prep nativity play, a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta for Years 3 and 4, an annual French play, Shakespeare in New College Antechapel, and a playreading in New College garden. Recent Pre-Prep productions have included the ever-popular summer pantomime, which usually features some guest appearances by members of staff. Pre-Prep plays are written by the Pre-Prep staff and the music is composed by one of the music staff. Recent Prep School productions include: Henry IV, Part 1, Richard III, Henry V, Macbeth, Harlequinade, Murder in the Cathedral, and Plautus's The Ghost.
