Wykeham Day
Like pretty much everything else, Wykeham Day was reimagined this year.
However, unlike pretty much everything else, there were many virtues to putting Wykeham Day online. It is the reality of alumni events that, once those alumni are dispersed around the country or around the world, it can be very difficult to get them back in one place at a set time. With the advent of Zoom and livestreaming, though, we have been able to take advantage of ‘virtual’ attendance at events. And one of those events this year included Wykeham Day. It was a useful and highly enjoyable opportunity for alumni to ‘touch base’ with the NCS of 2021, hearing presentations about the current school from the Headmaster, SLT, Organist, the Director of the NCS Foundation, and the Head Boy and his deputies. Those talks inevitably covered what has changed in recent years, but also which values remain core to what we do here. We were also able to enjoy some musical contributions from our professional musician alumni, including Low Island, James Gilchrist, Alexander L’Estrange, and Peter Mallinson, alongside some younger old boys who are wowing their senior schools with their musical skills, the foundations of which were laid at NCS. The day concluded with evensong from New College Chapel, with the boys on fantastic form at the end of an academic year like no other.
