Year 8 Boys Become Science Teachers
During Trinity Year 8 and 8S boys spent one of their lunchtime activities planning a Science lesson to teach to boys lower down in the school.
This had been raised several times as a request in school council meetings and so the boys were thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with their younger peers. They spent time choosing a topic that they would like to teach in a single lesson. They then had to produce a suitable activity (including the obligatory risk assessment!) and resources such as a PowerPoint and worksheet. Of course, getting into the role of teachers, they also were expected to produce a detailed lesson plan explaining the aims of the lesson and what they were going to do. Finally, the lesson arrived and the boys did a fantastic job of inspiring our youngest future scientists. Reception and Year 3 were treated to sessions designing the most effective parachute to avoid breaking an egg. Year 2 learnt how carbonated drinks are made and made their own lemonade, whilst Year 1 also investigated carbonation by watching an impressive rocket launch in the playground. Finally, Year 5 had fun looking at density and making their own lava lamps. There are definitely a number of future teachers in the making amongst our Year 8/8S boys!
