French Day
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed their annual French Day full of French-themed activities. They first purchased their chocolat chaud or jus d’orange, together with a couple of popular French sweets from the breakfast stall. All then gathered in the Auditorium for a projection of films on Parisian bakeries and the art of chocolate- making in France. The Boulangers-apprentis made their own baguettes and fancy-shaped buns with talent, before filling them with fillings “bought” from the French market stall set up in the playground.
A French Day would not be complete without the Eiffel Tower showing up somewhere. So, in house teams, they built Eiffel Towers from cardboard – some showed strong design skills! The rain prevented us from heading towards Field for the afternoon, but they nevertheless enjoyed an indoor picnic before fiercely competing in a volleyball tournament and a game of Balle au prisonnier (French version of dodge ball). A galore of French sweets, medals, cups and Eiffel Tower key rings were handed out as prizes and appreciated by everybody, in true team spirit!
