Charities, 2023-4
The NCS community has been most generous in its support of a range of charities across the year including: Muscular Dystrophy UK through the Town and Gown 10k race; Great Ormond Street Hospital through Young Art Oxford; homelessness and the Crisis charity through choral service collections; and local food banks through the Harvest Festival.
The Charity Committee at NCS aims to raise awareness and financial support for causes that our community holds dear. We do this by donating time, help, and money. We’ve put on special events and taken on chores at home, but perhaps most memorable are the cakes in our termly bake sales. Members of our community nominate charities they think would be a good fit and the Charity Committee discuss and vote on which ones to support.
In Michaelmas our education charity was Core Arts, which promotes positive mental health through creative outlets. They aim to provide arts education for those who don’t have the means to access this type of enrichment. Hilary saw the introduction of a ‘bob- a-job’ week introduced by Victoria Hayter as a way of supporting Oxford Hospitals Charity, a local charity close to many in our community. Pupils and staff also played a celebration basketball match (won narrowly by the teachers). The Woodland Trust was selected as our sustainability charity in Trinity, when the Eco and Charity committees work together. Pupils took part in an art competition on the theme of woodland. Thank you to the whole school community for giving their time, effort and financial support to these important causes.
