After the long journey we arrived late afternoon at La Grand’Ferme near Mont Saint-Michel. After a warm welcome from our host Coralie and a tour of the site, the boys unpacked and then enjoyed a delicious dinner followed by a treasure hunt in the garden. Everyone went to bed feeling tired after a busy day, although some of us were woken in the night by a spectacular thunderstorm! On Tuesday we spent the day doing many different activities on site: French games were played, the boys had a bike ride, there were games in the beautiful outdoor pool and delicious bread was made. The day was rounded off with a fantastic barbecue in the garden and a sports competition.

Wednesday took us further afield as we travelled to Villers-Bocage and spent the morning practising French by choosing food for our lunchtime picnic in the outdoor market. After enjoying the food we had purchased, we visited the Bayeux War Cemetery and the nearby D-Day landing beaches. Thursday brought another action packed day with a visit to the Bayeux Tapestry in the morning and then some impressive efforts on the high ropes in the afternoon. With the soaring temperatures, the day ended with a much-needed dip in the pool! All too quickly it was Friday and the end of our visit. Our final expedition was to a goat farm where the boys had the opportunity to milk the goats and sample delicious fresh cheese. Then it was on to the ferry and the return journey to Oxford. It was a wonderful week and as always, the boys were a credit to the school!
